Terms of use

These terms form the agreement between you and Wonder Media Ltd when you claim a handle on treenor.com and, once it launches, when you use the Treenor app. Please read them carefully.

1. About us

Treenor is a product of Wonder Media Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 06489006, whose registered office is 48 Church Avenue, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG1 4HG. Our VAT number is 983 5674 67. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Wonder Media Ltd. You can contact us at hello@treenor.com.

Our privacy notice explains how we use personal data.

Part 1: Claiming a handle

2. Eligibility

You must be 18 or over to claim a handle. Each person may claim one handle, using their own email address. Claiming handles in bulk, by automated means or for resale is not permitted.

3. How handles are allocated

Handles may contain letters, numbers and underscores and must be between 2 and 15 characters long. Handles are not case-sensitive. A handle is held for you only once you have confirmed your email address; where two people claim the same handle, it is allocated to whoever confirms first. Confirmation links are valid for 48 hours.

4. Reserved and withdrawn handles

Some handles are reserved, including those relating to Treenor itself. We may withdraw a handle, including after it has been confirmed, if it impersonates a person, brand or organisation, uses a trade mark in a way that is likely to mislead, is offensive, or was claimed in breach of section 2. If we withdraw your handle, we will tell you why and, where appropriate, invite you to choose another.

5. Founding members

Everyone who claims a handle before founding membership closes is a founding member. Founding members receive first choice of handles and, once they become members of the app, a founding mark displayed beside their name. We will announce the closing date for founding membership in advance.

6. When the app opens

Claiming a handle is free, and no payment is taken on treenor.com. When the app opens, membership costs 99p a month (see section 10). We will email you when the app is available in your country. To use your handle, sign in to the app with the email address you used to claim it.

If you have not joined within 30 days of the app becoming available in your country, we will release your handle and delete your details, after notifying you by email. If the app is not yet available in your country, we will hold your handle until it is.

7. Invitations

Your personal invite link is for sharing with people you know. It must not be distributed in bulk or as unsolicited messages. Once the app is open, each person who joins through your link and pays for their first month of membership adds one tree to your trees count (see section 11).

8. Withdrawing your claim

You may ask us to delete your details at any time by emailing privacy@treenor.com. Your handle will be released when we do so.

Part 2: Using the Treenor app

The app is not yet available. This part sets out the terms that will apply when it launches. We will review it before launch and notify you of any significant changes.

9. Eligibility and your account

Treenor is only for people aged 18 and over, and you must complete an age check when you first use the app. You may hold one account. You must keep your account details accurate and your sign-in secure, and you are responsible for activity on your account. Treenor is available only in the countries where it is listed in the App Store and Google Play.

10. Membership and payment

Membership costs 99p a month in the UK. Prices in other countries are shown in the App Store or Google Play before you subscribe. There is no joining fee. Your membership renews automatically each month until you cancel it.

Membership is purchased and managed through Apple or Google and is subject to their terms. You can cancel at any time in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings, and your membership will continue until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app or your Treenor account does not cancel your subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google in accordance with their policies. If the price changes, you will be notified before the new price applies and may cancel before it does.

11. Tree planting

For each month of membership you pay for, we fund the planting of one tree through our planting partner, Tree-Nation. When a person you invited pays for their first month of membership, we fund one further tree, which is added to your trees count.

We select the planting projects, and the app shows where each of your trees is being planted. Trees are planted during each project’s planting season, which may be some months after payment. Your trees count shows the trees funded through your membership and invitations. It is not a carbon offset and we do not describe it as one. If we change planting partner, we will tell you.

12. Paused membership

If you cancel your membership, or a payment is not completed, your membership will be paused at the end of the period you have paid for. While it is paused, you can view your trees, download your data, restart your membership or delete your account, but you cannot read or create posts or messages. Your profile, posts and handle remain unchanged, and your handle cannot be taken by anyone else.

13. Your content

You retain ownership of the content you post. You grant Wonder Media Ltd a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display your content solely for the purpose of operating Treenor, including in share cards you choose to create. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for any copies we must keep as described in our privacy notice.

Posts and replies are public and can be seen by anyone using Treenor and by anyone you share a link with. You are responsible for your content and must have the right to post it.

14. Acceptable use

You must not use Treenor to:

  • post or share illegal content, including threats, harassment, content intended to stir up hatred, terrorist content, fraud, or content that sexually abuses or exploits children;
  • harass, abuse, intimidate or threaten another person, or post content intended mainly to provoke or upset others, whether or not it is unlawful;
  • encourage or assist anyone to harm themselves or others;
  • share another person’s private information, or intimate images of any person without their consent;
  • make statements about a real person that you know to be untrue and that could damage their reputation;
  • impersonate another person or organisation (parody accounts are permitted where the account name makes this clear);
  • send spam, operate automated accounts, or collect content from Treenor by automated means;
  • create an additional account, including to avoid a suspension or removal;
  • buy, sell or transfer handles; or
  • circumvent our safety measures, such as posting limits and content filters.

15. Moderation and safety

Feeds on Treenor are shown in time order. We do not rank, promote or recommend posts. We use automated filters and rate limits on posts, handles, messages and branch names, and profile pictures are checked automatically, including against databases of known child sexual abuse material.

Members can report posts, messages, profiles and pictures in the app. Anyone else may report content to hello@treenor.com. Reports are reviewed by a person.

If content or conduct breaches these terms or the law, we may remove content, restrict your ability to post for a period, suspend your account or close it. Where there is a risk of serious harm, such as child sexual abuse or a threat to someone’s life, we will act immediately and may close an account without notice. We will tell you what action we have taken and why, unless the law prevents us or doing so would put someone at risk. We report child sexual abuse material to the National Crime Agency and inform the police where we believe someone’s life or safety is at risk.

16. Complaints and appeals

If you believe we have made the wrong decision about your content or account, you may appeal by replying to the email that notified you of the decision, or by contacting hello@treenor.com. We will review the decision and tell you the outcome. Any other complaint about Treenor, including from people who are not members, regulators and authorities, may be sent to the same address. We handle correspondence in English.

17. Defamation complaints

If you believe a post is defamatory of you, please email hello@treenor.com with your name and email address, a link to the post, the statement you believe is untrue and why it is harmful to you, and whether you consent to your name being shared with the person who posted it. We follow the Defamation (Operators of Websites) Regulations 2013, under which we normally pass your complaint to the poster within 48 hours and ask whether they consent to its removal. We will not disclose the poster’s identity to you unless they consent or a court orders us to.

18. Handles and name marks

The rules in sections 3 and 4 continue to apply in the app. A handle is not reassigned while its account exists. When an account is deleted, its handle is held for 12 months before it becomes available to others.

The founding mark is displayed beside the names of founding members. Nothing that can be purchased is ever displayed beside a member’s name. Treenor’s official accounts are identified by the Treenor tree, which no other account may use.

19. Deleting your account

You can delete your account in the app at any time. Your account and posts are hidden immediately and permanently deleted after 30 days; signing in during that period cancels the deletion. You should also cancel your subscription in the App Store or Google Play. Our privacy notice explains what information we keep after an account is deleted.

20. Our responsibility to you

We will provide Treenor with reasonable care and skill. We do not guarantee that it will always be available or free from faults, and we may change, add or remove features. Content is posted by members and, other than through automated filters, is not reviewed by us before it appears.

If we fail to comply with these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or our failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable. Treenor is provided for domestic and private use only, and we are not responsible for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.

We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for breach of your legal rights as a consumer in relation to digital services.

21. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Treenor at any time by cancelling your membership and deleting your account. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms, and we will tell you the reason. If we decide to close Treenor, we will give you reasonable notice, the opportunity to download your data, and we will stop taking membership payments.

22. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect changes to Treenor, to the law or to our planting partner. We will give you at least 30 days’ notice of any change that materially affects you, except where a change is required by law or is needed urgently to keep Treenor safe. If you do not agree to a change, you may cancel your membership and delete your account before it takes effect.

23. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts. If you live in the European Union, you retain the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your country and may bring proceedings where you live.
